The caxixi is a traditional rattle instrument from Brazil, originally used in Afro-Brazilian music and often played alongside the berimbau. Today, it’s embraced in a wide range of musical styles as a percussive effect that adds texture and rhythmic character. When played, the caxixi is shaken vertically, allowing the internal beads to strike either the hard base or the woven sides, producing distinct tonal variations.

MEINL Percussion Caxixis are expertly handcrafted with a natural woven body and a solid coconut shell bottom. This combination not only gives the instrument an authentic look and feel but also produces a crisp, high-pitched sound with excellent projection. Whether used for traditional rhythms or contemporary grooves, these caxixis deliver clear articulation and vibrant presence—perfect for percussionists looking to expand their sound palette.
