What Is the Temporary Work – Creative Worker Visa

Under UK immigration law, the “Creative Worker” visa is a route for individuals from outside the UK to work temporarily in the UK’s creative sector — as an actor, dancer, musician, dancer, film or TV crew member, or other eligible creative role. GOV.UK+1

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a licensed sponsor before applying. GOV.UK+1
  • Be sponsored for a role that is short-term and not a permanent position. Creative Worker visas cannot be used to fill permanent jobs or ongoing roles. GOV.UK+1
  • Demonstrate that they will make a unique contribution to the UK’s creative life — for example, as a music artist, performer, film crew, or other specialist creative worker. GOV.UK+1
  • Provide biometrics (if required), a valid passport or travel document, and pay the relevant visa and health-surcharge fees. GOV.UK+1

On grant, the visa allows you to stay in the UK for up to 12 months initially — or for the duration specified on your Certificate of Sponsorship plus up to 14 days, whichever is shorter. GOV.UK+1
You may be eligible to extend your stay (with the same sponsor) for up to a maximum of 24 months. GOV.UK+1

Dependants (eligible partner and children) may also accompany the Creative Worker under certain conditions. GOV.UK+1

During the period of permission, the Creative Worker may:

  • Work for their sponsor in the role described on the CoS
  • Undertake supplementary employment under permitted conditions (e.g. in the same sector/at the same level or as allowed) and
  • Study (subject to any applicable restrictions) GOV.UK+1

The route is temporary — it does not provide a path to indefinite settlement in the UK. GOV.UK+1
