Ludwig Classic Maple drums feature a standard 7-ply, 6mm shell designed for optimum resonance, sustain, and tonal balance. The shell construction uses a center 3-ply core with alternating grain direction, pressed between inner and outer 2-ply panels using Ludwig’s proprietary Radio Frequency Shell Technology (RFST). This process, combined with Ludwig’s historic bladder molds and time-tested adhesive system, ensures exceptional shell stability and consistency throughout the drum.

Each shell is finished with a precise 45-degree bearing edge, hand-sanded for smooth head seating, a wide tuning range, and maximum sustain — delivering the unmistakable classic Ludwig sound loved by drummers worldwide.

Steve’s Notes: Fire Burst Pearl is our latest collaborative finish with Ludwig, exclusive to Maxwell Drums. Steve Maxwell commissioned Ludwig to create this wrap as a tribute to a similar finish Ludwig produced in the 1930s. This unique finish is available across a variety of Classic Maple configurations and can also be ordered in Legacy Maple and Mahogany shell builds.

This drum kit is completely unplayed and was specially ordered from Steve Maxwell. Fire Burst Pearl is an extremely rare finish produced exclusively for Steve Maxwell, making this a highly collectible and unique Ludwig outfit.
