Ajax Drums has brought back the essence of vintage drum-making with a punch, combining the classic tonal warmth of yesteryear with contemporary innovations. Inspired by legendary Camco designs and the vintage 3-ply mahogany shell, Ajax has meticulously crafted drums that bring an unmatched sonic cocktail to the drumming community.

Superior Craftsmanship and Precision Engineering

Ajax Custom Shops utilise only the finest components, paired with state-of-the-art machinery to ensure precise, easily tuneable drums suitable for all genres. The hallmark of these drums is their 3-ply shell construction:

• 1/16" Mahogany Outer Ply

• 1/8" Tuplip Core Ply

• 1/16" Mahogany Inner Ply

• 1/4" Solid Beech Reinforcement Rings (optional)

This construction pays homage to UK drum manufacturing traditions of the 1950s and 60s, enriching each drum with warmth and tonal depth.

Shell Options for Varied Tones and Playing Styles

Ajax offers two distinct shell configurations, each designed for specific tonal characteristics:

• Option 1: Vintage Warmth and Resonance

  • Shell Composition: Mahogany outer and inner plies, Poplar core, and 1/4" Beech reinforcement rings.

  • Bearing Edges: 30-degree bearing edges with rounded profiles, reminiscent of Camco drums.

  • Tone Result: Produces a warm, rich, and "woody" tone, perfect for a classic, resonant sound with a vintage feel.

• Option 2: Modern Control and Focus

  • Shell Composition: Mahogany outer and inner plies with a Poplar core (without reinforcement rings).

  • Bearing Edges: 60-degree bearing edges with round-overs.

  • Tone Result: Delivers a more focused, controlled tone, ideal for modern playing styles that demand precise articulation and punch.
