Ajax has a serious place in British drum history. The brand was established by Hawkes & Sons in London in 1927, before becoming part of Boosey & Hawkes in 1930. Through the 1950s and 1960s, Ajax became one of Britain's major drum names, producing instruments played by leading drummers and developing some of the era's most recognisable snare drums.
The 14x4 Ajax snare itself has a particularly strong heritage. Ajax produced 14x4 models during its classic period, including the Pipperette, while vintage 14x4 Ajax snares are known for their crisp, responsive character and compact voice.
Now that heritage moves forward.
14x4 Carbon Snare
The new Ajax 14x4 Carbon Snare takes the classic shallow 14" format and brings it into the modern era with a carbon shell designed for fast response, powerful attack and projection.
The compact 4" depth gives the drum a quick response and focused character, making it particularly suited to modern music where the snare needs to cut through without becoming overpowering.
Inspired by LOX
This drum has been inspired by LOX, one of the UK's exciting new-generation drummers.
LOX currently plays a one-of-one Ajax kit and has developed a distinctive approach that combines powerful, intricate playing with melodic and highly musical compositions. His work has included artists and groups such as Mansur Brown, Guvna B, Wretch 32, Steam Down and Leon Foster Thomas.
