Devised to provide the lowest fundamental note across the kit, the Drum Workshop Collectors Series Purple Core series is a drum technology breakthrough that yields maximum low end response designed to compliment today's music.

This unique 9-ply shell with 3-ply reinforcement hoop features a 3-ply Purpleheart wood core with only one long grain veneer. This means the rest of the shell is short grain, thus putting very little tension on the shell and dramatically lowing the overall pitch of the drum.

Grain orientation technology is key to producing a purpose-driven shell configuration. The more tension on each of the shell's plies, the higher the pitch. The less tension, the lower the note.

In this instance, the goal was to realise the lowest fundamental tone possible throughout the drumset. Physics said it couldn't be done, but with the help of a 3-ply Purpleheart core with a horizontal centre ply, the concept became reality.
