Tama Drums have been making high quality, great sounding kits since 1961 when the founder Hoshino Gakki started the company under the name ‘Star Drums’. In 1974, Hoshino decided to focus his efforts on making the best quality drums and hardware he could under the name ‘Tama Drums’. Tama was the name of his wife which is a homophone with the Japanese word meaning ‘Jewel’.

Tama introduced the Starclassic series back in 1994 and quickly became a sought after kit for players who prioritise sound, feel and looks. The Tama Star Classic performers (2006) are known for their great sound in an affordable market
